RIP Udo Kier, who commanded me to ask him a question during the post-film Q&A for BRAWL IN CELL BLOCK 99 at TIFF in 2017. (I seem to recall him leading into it by saying I was sitting there in the Scotiabank IMAX theater like the king of Sheba.)

Started walking an hour+ per day every day a little more than a year ago. May be in the best shape I’ve ever been in, as shown by walking two Columbus marathon events this weekend:

-5K in 38:30 (12:20 mile pace)
-Half marathon in 2:58:57 (13:39 pace), plus entering live-action Super Mario World

Gotta wonder if whoever approved those MLB playoff hoodies that say “Built for Fall” considered how they might be read ironically in the event of any upsets.

It’s nice as a fan that the Reds made the postseason, even if they probably don’t belong. Ownership should not take this as a sign that the team is good enough.

Pitching is pretty good, offense is the pits. Could steal a short series from the Dodgers or do what they did in 2020 and not score a run.

Hadn’t seen HARD-BOILED in a long time, caught it in the theater today, and kept thinking this is the greatest movie ever made. So much fun. Didn’t get to as many of the HK classics I wanted to see, but seeing this, THE KILLER, and A BETTER TOMORROW was cool.

Crossed off a cultural blind spot when I saw HAMILTON last night. I’d only heard two or three songs before—the first two, to my surprise—and knew generally what it was about. Nothing can live up to the hype this musical has had, but this is not the time to be a contrarian. It’s good!

Let’s see if I can witness a second Reds win in four days and in a different ballpark with them back at home vs. the Twins.

Beautiful day at Comerica Park to see the Reds stomp the Tigers. Only issue was the constant loud talkers behind me who were literally wrong about everything (pitchers hit in the NL, they don’t throw around the horn after a strikeout because of the pitch clock), etc. Remained a hero & kept quiet. 😂

Far exceeded my expectations walking my first 10K race. I mainly wanted to finish in less than 90 minutes, which I did with plenty of time to spare. Maybe finishing a half marathon this fall in less than 3 hours is possible.

Last night’s MLS game was the first I’ve been to in maybe a decade. Seemed completely transformed into what felt to me more like a European atmosphere. Also more fan-driven and more confident that those there were interested/didn’t need insistent check-ins to see if they’re entertained.

Really leaning into the I-71 sign between Columbus and Cincinnati with branding tonight’s Crew-FC Cincinnati game as Hell is Real.

Hit 200 straight days of an hour or more of walking workouts. Signed up to walk a half marathon in October, as I found I’m well within the pace one needs to maintain and basically walked one a couple weekends ago.

Absolutely brutal way to lose a hard-fought game.

It has not been a great NCAA Tournament, but Florida-Auburn was a great game (aside from the end of the game taking forever to play, which needs to be fixed).

The linked article is absolutely chilling and makes me wonder if everyone is taking a big risk leaving from or returning to this country.
The cruelty is the point, but also the $:"Companies like CoreCivic and GEO Group receive government funding based on the number of people they detain, which is why they lobby for stricter immigration policies. It’s a lucrative business: CoreCivic made over $560m from Ice contracts in a single year."
Why would anyone who can avoid it come to the US now? Heartbreaking. Pointless. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

I was really hoping this was for a screenplay reading of the Jason Statham movie.

Disappointed that “We Didn’t Start the Fire” isn’t used in the Sally Ride documentary. It is the second film I’ve seen at True/False to use “Mr. Blue Sky,” though. (The other was DEAF PRESIDENT NOW!)

10 of 17 films down at True/False 2025. 8 good to very good, only two that didn’t do much for me. Best of fest to date:

-ZODIAC KILLER PROJECT
-THE DATING GAME
