The Spelthorne Best Value Inspection report is worth a read. It’s not only the timing that seems to coincide strangely with Surrey County Council’s modelling for a 2- or 3- Unitary county…
A Surrey council that’s burdened residents with the equivalent of £10k each in debt is set to be taken over by government commissioners having gambled more than £1bn of public money on property investments 👇
Council that gambled £1bn on the property market set for government…
Spelthorne spent big on commercial properties to offset austerity cuts but amassed disastrous debts

I’m old enough to remember Boris Johnson telling businesses Brexit paperwork could go in a bin. Now they need a warehouse to store it in

This was supposed to be cheaper than using moribund “hotels”. It’d be interesting to see who’s been “investing” in them?
It’s a fiscal pothole all on its own. Absolute clowns.
In July, I FOI'd the Home Office for the full breakdown of spending on the Rwanda scheme

I was refused because the government planned to publish the data in future, and today is the day. These numbers are in millions

Surrey is not only literally crumbling under the Conservatives but we now know they can’t be relied on either to accept the consequences. Vote for better on 1 May.
