In the future we're building online communities function as digital third places. That requires independence & autonomy (rsky + blacksky.community). Hopefully also democratic decision making (assembly.blacksky.community)

And soon: the opportunity for privacy preserving gift economies + mutual aid
blacksky.cash Feedback Sessions
The Blacksky Algorithms' team wants to build payment features for community members to send money to one another across the AT Protocol (Blacksky/Bluesky). blacksky.cash would work within the AT Proto...

THIS and involving ourselves in local mutual aid. as the middle class dissolves and most Americans struggle, it is more important than ever to have actual relationships of interdependence & collective resilience with our neighbors to build from.

No charity or politician is coming to save us.

calling it a ceasefire is just as dangerous as calling it a ‘conflict’ - upholding the illusion that there are two forces of equal power that have agreed to put their weapons down.

I am skeptically celebrating this end to the genocide. it’s still Free Palestine until Palestine is free. 🇵🇸

I hear and see your concerns. Over the weekend, a couple users hosted on Blacksky's PDS were banned from the Bluesky app and thus the Bluesky API servers. This was a weakness of our system I've been aware of and hoped we had more time to address before any kind of public incident. 1/11

The old adage ’strength in numbers’ remains one of the most powerful tools in justice movements. The aid flotillas are a great example of this.

For us to win we need to demonstrate our numbers. we need more people and more resources to movements. if you want to know what you can do, just show up.

The org running Open Collective has made the unfortunate decision to start charging organizations a monthly fee to use their site.

This will cost Pact Collective and hosted mutual aid orgs hundreds of dollars per month and even charging Blacksky (less than Pact, but still)!

So we’re gonna move

This is why every billionaire is a policy failure. We’re allowing people to amass supervillain levels of money that allow them to be essentially sovereign individuals.
Much as I hate to agree with David Frum, he’s absolutely right about Elon Musk.

A major problem in our society is that we aren’t trusted with complexity, and therefore don’t learn to think critically.

We’re constantly given binaries like left and right (politically speaking) or good and evil that we skip over all the logic and nuance. We have a responsibility to be curious.

genuinely do not understand the Barbie hype/praise.

Its feminist politics are so weak and surface level, doing more to sympathize patriarchy and uphold power structures than tear them down or critique them in any meaningful way.
