This was the first Lush single I knew, and the britpop music and video (the heteropessimistic lyrics might be a part of it) broke the band. Years later I was aware of their shoegazing and in retrospect, shoegazing was bad for my health.

It just seems like... there are big issues for Jewish literature at the moment, for Jewish authors whatever their politics or if indeed they have any to speak of. Which is maybe why I'm so frustrated by a Big Article promising to speak to that and then not.

Today I paid my respects to Aussie soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice for the country I hold dear. Tomorrow I will do the same for the Canadian soldiers.

I can only imagine the incredible heartbreak of every mother who had to say goodbye to their brave sons.

tl;dr of my 2024 but possibly still relevant column: acknowledging and atoning for one's own white privilege was a bummer. Left antisemitism is a way to make it so there's just one group of (mostly, conditionally) white people to blame for all of it.
