I've taken the paywall off this eulogy I wrote for my magical, mysterious ex-stray cat George - who died last year - in case anybody would like a read.

It was very, very hard to write but I think it might be my favourite thing I’ve ever written about cats.

4 Folklore (the kind we know, and the kind still to come).
5 The differences between the 20th & 21st Century...

Sad but possibly happy news, our baby swallows left the donkeys stable this morning and are not back roosting tonight. The donkeys' backs will be without bird poo until next summer now. 🙂‍↕️

August is North Pembrokeshire Open Studios season and I got this at Linda Norris's studio in Maenclochog. It's called Shearwater Night. Linda (and I)love the encounters with wild birds, such as puffins and Manx shearwaters, that are part of an overnight stay on the islands of Skomer and Skokholm.

The Shell House, Cilwendeg, near Boncath, north Pembrokeshire. 1820s, then lost in the undergrowth and forgotten. Restored in the 00s and a lovely place to visit.

A close encounter with Strumble Head Lighthouse last night. Visible on the horizon from our house in north Pembrokeshire, but this was my first chance to look around the site, on a tour by the National Park.

A lovely week for wildlife explorations.
1. An evening trip round Skomer Island surrounded by thousands of puffins, shearwaters, etc.
2. Exploration of a woodland nature reserve to monitor hazel dormice.
3. Have the honour to feed a growing number of hedgehogs, some of whom are contortionists. ❤️

I was chatting with artist/author Steve Smallman online the other night, during the last night of Storm Darragh. I had to say goodbye as I had to check on the donkeys. When I got back, he had done this sketch and sent it to me. I had to buy it and you can see why!
