This is a scary announcement by Reform, 1 step away from so-called remigration.
The government must call this out for what it is: racism.
Anything less, such as talking about how it won't work in practical terms, is a moral failure & effectively validates these views.

All of this
Having researched the mainstreaming of the far right for almost 20 years now, it is clear that all that is unfolding was predictable

What is also clear is that there has been no elite appetite for anything different and this is why we keep hearing the same voices offering the same recipes

Separate post just to say, yes, I’m much less chronically online than I was on the other place and I think it’s because of a seismic internal shift over whether I want that. Still, just wanted to express that it makes a difference when I read even small nods from colleagues that they’ve got us.

Nine years to the day, I challenged President Obama face to face in London, streaming across the world, to stop ignoring anti-trans bathroom bills in places like North Carolina, and do something. He praised then-PM David Cameron and the UK gov’t for same-sex marriage (cough). We scrap for scraps.

How do I even articulate how this feels? 85 graves, mainly children and babies. 😔

Just got back from a brilliant training on Advocacy for Children in Conflict with the Law, run by the Inns of Court College of Advocacy and kindly hosted by Lincoln House Chambers, Manchester. We got the opportunity to put ZA [2023] EWCA Crim 596 in practice, with a sentencing note and plea-in-mit.

BREAKING

On the day the UK government announces a permanent puberty blocker ban I learn:

ALICE’S DATA WAS NOT INCLUDED in data sent to Appleby to assess for his rushed DHSC report, that dismissed whistleblower claims of increased suicides in trans youth since Bell.

The report is a proven sham.

Even more of a reason for our government to not make snap decisions!
New figures show half of asylum decisions meet quality standards, putting refugees at risk of being sent back to torture & persecution.

Wrong asylum decisions can jeopardise people's right to safety.

We urgently need to prioritise quality decisions⬇️

Yes to resisting borders tech, but also bordering. Tech "safeguards" will always be lacking, as the crimmigration border system makes some people illegal and relies on racism to ameliorate liberalism's economic contradictions. Harsha Walia Border and Rule + Undoing Border Imperialism 📚

After my grandma, sister and parents’ outpouring of joy, it was my three-year-old cousin’s surprising reaction that brought it home: “When I’m bigger, I’m going to shake that hand and I’m going to wear those clothes. I like them a lot.”

This was a fantastic conference! I loved meeting so many like-minded professionals from both CoP and immigration, united by our belief that things can be fundamentally better for disabled migrants. Special thanks to @migrantsorganise.bsky.social for co-hosting. It’s clear they are superstars. 💫

Really important that we all fill this in and are as honest. We all know the NHS needs significant investment and reform to get patients the best care. And we need to stay committed to care that is free for everyone at the point of use.
We are running the biggest ever conversation about the NHS.

I refuse to lose hope. It’s what protects me against becoming jaded. My hope is angry, determined and defiant. The state of the world is not just about which demagogue sits atop which artificial throne. It’s the systems designed to fatigue us into compliance. New day, different faces, same problems.
