Last week I met a young man cashiering in the grocery check-out line. We had a brief conversation about my cilantro, and genetics (whether you love it or hate it). He then said, "Well, I'm just a white guy, so I miss out on alot." Resentment. I can't stop thinking about him.

I'm white as fuck also, and have not shown up in the way my nieces and nephews needed, but I'm glad they've got others to call Aunt and Uncle.
I'm white as fuck and we called our parents' close adult friends Aunt and Uncle as my kids do with our friends. It's so common!

While I lament what's happening in our world, this is good and makes me believe in the abundance of good souls in our world.
My local cafe has a basket of wool and needles for customers to knit while enjoying a cup of coffee and a chat. The strips are sewn into a blanket for one of our local rest homes.

Tonight, I crack my window open, like always. So I can hear the loons calling when I wake up at the usual 3am. It makes me believe in the beauty of our world, despite everything. And despite how cold it will be in here in the morning.

Was literally talking about this just this morning with a good friend. I was so inspired, heartened by the mass turn-out at NoKings rallies. And all the good energy. I'm headed to local non-profit tomorrow to see about volunteering.
I hope the people who participated in No Kings days come home and plug into Mutual Aid and helping their communities.
Poor people are at serious risk of missing benefit checks as things drag on. Many feds are unemployed and need help.

It just leads to yet another generation of trauma.
My thoughts on gun violence. Today I testified in a sentencing hearing for several young adults convicted of murder. With a gun, always a gun. Listening to the victim impact statement of a mother whose son was murdered, you learn to not wish violence on anyone. It’s not a joke. It’s not edgy.
