We obtained documents that provide details about the Trump administration’s use of Guantánamo Bay to detain immigrants. The shift reports show bleak conditions and that ICE was unprepared to handle detainees.

What Records Tell Us About How ICE Is Using Guantánamo - American Oversight
Documents we obtained show ICE was not prepared and that detainees — many of whom were not considered a public safety risk — protested bleak conditions.

I loved s.e.’s writing on death before I knew them, and I was lucky enough to be able to lean on them this year when people (and yes, cats) started dropping dead around me.

Do not miss this.
So uh.

I've spent the last five years working on a book about grief, mourning, who is allowed to grieve and how, and where we go from here, and...

you can now preorder it!

you can win without billionaires supporting you

you can win without party leadership endorsing you

you can win unapologetically standing with every persecuted minority pundits say are too politically toxic to touch

we could do everything about this process differently if we wanted to
Can’t stop thinking about all the robber baron fucks that held secret meetings and spent MILLIONS AND MILLIONS in bribes and campaign investments and attack ads and media manipulation trying to tank Mamdani currently having the dawning realization that their money is completely and utterly useless.

If you are tempted to put out nonperishables on Halloween, send your money to a food bank and call your reps instead.

There is money to fund SNAP during the shutdown. The government is quite literally just deciding not to use it.

Take the money you would've spent on that thing of beans and ramen and donate it to your local food pantry. They know what their clients need, and can stretch that dollar better than the average consumer.
If you thought about doing this, make a free library for nonperishable foods. Giving kids 1 can of beans a year was never going to address hunger, just take away the fun of Halloween. Find something meaningful, fuck the stunts.
I don't know what's worse, the fact that I'm surprised by this headline or the fact that I probably shouldn't be:

So the administration wants to replace boxes of pantry staples with fresh food.

It sounds nice, but it falls apart if you think about ANY part of this scheme.

7,000 local seniors rely on food boxes. Trump wants to cut the program
For decades, the aid has come in boxes provided by food banks to the poorest of seniors. The White House wants to change that in favor of a new, direct-to-consumer model that state and local officials...

Kiddo is twirling while I play Lucy Dacus, and I keep thinking about how one of the arguments we used for marriage equality in the mid-aughts was that queer couples mostly raise straight kids.

Not if this music has anything to say about it.

My grandpa keeps asking if Trump “got to me” yet, and honestly it’s the most understood I’ve felt in a long time.

It is time:

Fuck you, Strom Thurmond.
No matter how things go today, it’d be nice if we all agreed to open the windows around sundown tonight to scream “fuck you, Strom Thurmond” into the abyss.

Given the state of things, I will be discontinuing all work and instead spending my days imagining a world where Anne Shirley and Jo March met each other and learned that queer people exist.

This is not how our food system works. This is not how anything works.

We’ve spent decades building mega farms that export tons of product, and we import most of what we eat.

Farmers can’t just “plant something else” — they don’t have the seed, equipment, or funding this late in the season.

Sneaking suspicion that “personal liberties” aren’t going to include things like the freedom to protest or to access health care.
Jeff Bezos, in continuing his trend of turning WaPo into his personal plaything, has announced that its opinion section will now exclusively focus on promoting "personal liberties and free markets." 🙃

if you’re not trans & don’t know about the cass review, when this report comes out, it will look very much like the cass review. the NYT will treat it as legitimate.

i know this because they already did it with the cass review & said it should be the new model for america. tap the thread to learn.

Objectively funny to watch the admin try to legislate gender only to REALLY struggle with biology.

Anyhow they whiffed hard enough that we’re all trans now, congrats.
I think what’s going on here that these people are trying to find some true binary relating to biological sex. Genital morphology won’t do it. Sex chromosomes don’t do it. So they’ve retreated to gamete size. I think the use of large and small cell is also a hedge in this direction, not prudishness.
