quoting to not just muse in OP's mentions- i've tried a couple different ways talking to my parents about my friends who have transitioned- one who i just basically introduced as a new friend and one who i explicitly said had transitioned. i feel like it went over better as the latter
then again, i'm not sure all trans folks would want continuity between who they were and who they are so ymmv. up for discussion tbh

🐭PSA for no reason whatsoever: if you're ever talking about a trans person you knew before they became trans, their new name and pronouns retroactively get applied to back then too. it's very disrespectful to call them by their dead name, even if that's how you knew them back then
