4) 2400 years ago, one Scythian wanted a plush bird toy and someone painstakingly made them one by hand out of three different colors of reindeer fur and felt, with contrast stitching. I think people will always do these things for each other. (Apparently Scythians loved plushies? Bitches, man.)

This is very much how I feel about it.
One thing we have to remember is that many parts of trans life and history that are often now deemed regressive, binarist, or conformist have at many times been—and even remain—some of the most disrespected, stigmatized, and hypersexualized.

In 2009, a young trans man and I were discussing the word "transsexual" and he said it was never going anywhere.
In 2015, an older trans woman told me she understood that solidarity across the whole trans spectrum was important but she had fought too hard for "transsexual" to give it up personally.
