Ideas for being frugal, to reuse, repair and reimagine. Not a prepper or homesteader, just a family living in a small town trying to be more frugal and more sustainable. Would love to hear your ideas!

My goal is to draw on the wisdom of others and from those who have gone before us, to learn how to make the most out of our resources. To learn how to reduce our consumption, to reuse more, to be intentional about repurposing items, to make our dollars stretch, to make do and mend.
I’m not this frugal…yet. But my grandma used to save these mesh bags that you get onions and potatoes in, then she would scrunch them into a ball and use it as a dish scrubber. Anyone else do this?

Another reason to keep a supply of shelf stable food on hand.
Supermarket shelves are emptying out at some stores around the country, after a cyberattack hit a major distributor to Whole Foods Market and other chains.

Even though it is April, a chilly rainy evening was perfect for soup! Split pea soup is an excellent way to use your old ham bones. I always toss ham bones in the freezer to save for a later date. Definitely a great addition to any bean soup, are there any other soups that you add a ham bone to?

Stop shopping, reuse, recycle, repair and buy local when possible and Wall Street and the .01%ers will take notice.

Fabulous use of produce that is past its prime!
This is a tale about some tomotoes, still fit for human consumption, but rapidly moving towards being destined as waste, by virtue of a random 'eat by' date.
The tomatoes are now looking very delicious in this Tomato Tart Tatin

I keep a large ziplock bag in my freezer where I can toss scraps of veggies in, particularly onions, celery, carrots, and garlic. When I have chicken bones I can pull out this bag of veggie scraps and make stock.

I’m debating on sharing some messages I got, but apparently I have upset someone with this account. This seems odd considering I have a handful of followers and only a few posts, but it didn’t take long to bring out the trolls
So, I want to take a minute to explain my intentions with this account.

They have large amounts of protein, carbohydrates, fats, phosphorus, niacin and are a good source of fiber too. Modern research has confirmed that acorn flour is rich in potassium, calcium and magnesium.

I personally abhor food waste, and yet I often have food go bad in my kitchen. One of my goals for this year is to develop better habits in using up leftover food, repurposing scraps, etc.
Food scraps can always be composted or fed to animals.
