There's a lot happening right now, but this week, Republicans unveiled some new changes in their Big, Ugly, Betrayal of a bill and snuck in a provision that would allow them to SELL OFF OUR PUBLIC LANDS.

No way. Our public lands are NOT for sale.

“It’s natural to feel affectionate towards otters, but we need to leave them in the wild so that they can fulfill their ecological role, for them and for us.”
A new genetic study links otters found in exotic animal cafes in Japan with wild populations in well-known poaching hotspots in southern Thailand.

The new DNA evidence of a wildlife trade route between Thailand and Japan backs up calls from experts for stricter monitoring of wildlife exports.

A glut of social media videos featuring captive Asian small-clawed otters in the mid-2000s led to what wildlife trade experts term “the pet otter boom.” Demand for the species exploded, placing…

This affects all wildlife, including otters. It affects people. America’s Best Idea, our National Parks, faces its worst times. Our recourse right now is to keep the pressure on our representatives to protect democracy. ROEP will continue to work for clean waters and habitat for all species.
🚨A thousand National Park Service staff just lost their jobs today.🚨

While some parks can now move forward with seasonal hiring, slashing staff could have a ripple effect on operating hours, public safety and resource protection ahead of busy season.

One of the things most notable about the American West is that the federal government is the largest land holder. Between Forest service, Park service, and especially BLM land, the federal government manages about half of all land in the West, including in California.

A good example of how local action and personal connections to nature are basic to habitat conservation.

Plus, hedgehogs.
With the recent IUCN Red List status update for the European hedgehog, I decided to write a call to action, encouraging everyone from garden owners to politicians to play their part, and help stop this worrying decline.

Please read it, share it, and feedback: www.sciencenordic.com/animals/time...
Time for action! The hedgehog is at risk of becoming an endangered species
COMMENTARY: The European hedgehog is now categorised as ‘Near Threatened’. Fortunately, garden owners can make a big difference for the small animals.
