That any of us have to care about the messy breakup of these two massive narcissists — and that they both individually wield such massive power — is an indictment of our political system and further proves the poisonous influence of Big Money on our democracy.

It’s not unusual for new governments to initially impose restrictions, but this is next level. Increasing efficiency is one thing, but this seems to target scientists specifically. I’m concerned for early career researchers, grant applicants & intramural researchers.

Working in the arts is fucking HARD. Sometimes it can be absolutely soul crushing. It’s easy to say “Harden up, buttercup. It’s a contact sport, wear a helmet.” Better than that, you’ll want a support system, other creatives you can be honest and raw with. They will keep you sane. Mine certainly do.

RESIST.
Don't quit.
Don't stop fighting.
Don't obey in advance.
Don't stop calling them out.
Keep raising your voices as loudly as you can.
Keep organizing your friends, family, everyone.
Keep supporting orgs that are leading the fight.

RESIST.

I have so many people I am thankful for. If you have made me laugh, if you supported my comics or just comics in general, if you shared your interest in games or movies with me, you are one of those people.

THANK YOU.

I'm fascinated by human behaviors that we misunderstand. One example is image memorability: we all tend to find the same images memorable and forgettable, but w/out training, we are bad at predicting it. Why? We confuse it with beauty.

What are other examples?

Scientists should stop arguing about whether science is political and get on with defending science against increasingly powerful attacks on it, which, yes, means scientists should be political advocates 🔥🔥

Scientists as political advocates
Science, both teaching and doing, is under attack. The recent US presidential election of a person and platform with anti-science bias exemplifies this. The study of climate processes and patterns and...

When I was 5, I loved science, which I took to be planets and magnets and chemicals and shit.

Soon I realized science was a collective human activity, and these were just the objects of its attention.

Anyway, whenever I read an OpEd on how science isn't political, I think "Are you 5 years old?"
