80 years ago today the first atomic bomb was used against human targets. Since 1945 the power to do it again has rested in the hands of one person - who can order their use without anyone's permission and cannot be countermanded.

In my latest piece, I examine how the collapse of a common and shared reality is threatening our ability to govern, deliberate, and make informed decisions. From AI-driven disinformation to the concentration of power in a handful of platforms, the stakes have never been higher.

There are only three political positions in America today

1) I like the fascism

2) I'll acquiesce to the fascism (reasons for this one vary: cowardice, access, denial, misguidedly thinking that acquiescence is savvy, etc)

3) I oppose the fascism

The rest is details

Why am I so unimpressed by these strikes? Israel and the US have failed to target significant elements of Iran's nuclear materials and production infrastructure. RISING LION and MIDNIGHT HAMMER are tactically brilliant, but may turn out to be strategic failures. 🧵 1/17

Short of nuclear strikes, Fordow is buried deep enough that it can’t be destroyed without multiple big bombs on top of each other, and possibly not even with that (ie damaged, but not destroyed).

There’s virtually no way it’s totally done. And in a broader sense, this is probably far from over.

June was Van Gogh’s season of gold.

This is a real thing being posted and circulated by the Department of Homeland Security, referring to undocumented immigrants as “foreign invaders” and urging good Americans to turn them in.
