Newcastle Port now closed to coal ships! Wish we had drone footage of 5 Nannas in a tinny breaching 100m exclusion zone in an ‘exciting back &forth with police boats’. (Observers report). No arrests. Harbour authorities closed the port to coal ships. @risingtideaus.bsky.social

Which reminds me of my latest phone call to a BIG American bank, begging them to close my account, which is no longer in use, but being charged $10 US in account keeping fees per month. They wouldn’t close it.
Email about five seconds later: Tell us about your experience with *bank name* today FFS
Less than a week after five days in the stroke unit of my local hospital and both the hospital and my health fund have emailed me with consumer satisfaction surveys to fill out. For Christ's sake.

Foreign Minister Penny Wong has refused to say how much it would cost Australia to hold the COP31 climate conference, as negotiations over hosting rights enter the final stages.

Keep accidentally seeing snippets of “From that Small island: The Irish Story” on SBS. Still not quite ready for it. It’s triggering anger, grief, a sense of loss. One day soon I’ll binge the whole series, with an Irish whiskey in hand. Do all people of Irish descent feel triggered like I do? #Irish

Interesting
“The Pine Gap treaty was signed on Dec 9, 1966… among its terms was the option for either Australia or the US to cancel the agreement, with a year’s notice, after nine years. That cancellation date would have fallen a month after Whitlam was dismissed.”

Did the CIA overthrow the Whitlam government?
There is plenty of evidence to suggest it did. But is there a smoking gun?

Now they’re facing a defamation lawsuit. Legal costs are mounting and they need our support.

The game is far too easy for batters. We seek to revolutionise cricket through these new cricket stumps. Boasting four poles rather than three and made of volcanic ash instead of wood, they are perfect for events such as The Ashes.

If you haven’t seen this searing analysis of why Australia’s far RWNJ are going all anti abortion, do yourself a favour. @keanebernard.bsky.social absolutely nails these fuckturds to the wall 🔨🔥

Male resentment is driving right-wing populism. It will always default to a war on women
The determination of anti-abortion MPs to talk about curtailing access to abortion reflects something fundamental to right-wing populism.

What Gates is putting forward aren’t legitimate arguments that can be made in good faith. They are shopworn fossil fuel industry talking points.

They’re so obviously not interested in the native plants of Palestine!! Why bulldoze a seed bank ffs
On the morning of July 31, Israeli military forces, accompanied by bulldozers, arrived at the site of one of the two propagation units of the Palestinian National Seed Bank in the West Bank city of Hebron.

They then used bulldozers to demolish the structure.

This was one of the last bridges between Jews and Arabs. Israel demolished it, too
