The top 1% capture more wealth than 99% of the world. A wealth tax on the richest 0.5% of Canadians would allow $30 billion in gains/yr, while supporting tax cuts to middle- and low-income workers and raising money for public goods. #NoMoreBillionaires #TaxTheRich act.gp/4qNIIXs

Proven time and time again, carbon capture is not the answer.
Many industries, incl. oil & gas continue to use/push it. This gives them tax credits & gov. subsidies ... all while making huge 💰 & ignoring the fact it doesn't work. @mark-carney.bsky.social please stop pretending this is a solution.
New research from @oilchange.bsky.social: Japan has spent $5.2 billion in public funds on carbon capture. Now, it’s pushing its broken model across Southeast Asia to trap the region in fossil fuels and use it as a dumping ground for carbon pollution.

Labelling heavy industry like steel as “hard-to-abate” allows them to argue against reducing emissions now, or to justify using CCS or offsets to meet climate goals.

But existing tech and demand reduction can cut emissions in these sectors, writes @billhare.bsky.social on

Is "hard-to-abate" really that hard - or is it a justification for delay?

The richest 400 Americans gained enough new wealth in the past year to have provided every adult citizen with about $400 a month in universal basic income. That would cut poverty in half.

We are making a choice as a society to give a small number of people essentially infinite access to resources.
The 400 richest people in the U.S. are now worth a record $6.6 trillion after getting $1.2 trillion richer over the past year.
