There are a lot of *interesting* hot takes on Pope Leo XIV.

Many of them are bemoaning an "American Pope" b/c of Trump.

I understand. I feel you.

But PLEASE... take a moment to look at the man's history.

He is NOT the American that Trump & Vance wanted as Pope.

I think I'm going to post this every day.

It doesn't have to work today. It doesn't even need to be filed. But it's time to get Trump on the ropes and build the support needed to remove him from office.

Before it's too late.

The House could vote next week on drastic cuts to Medicaid that would gut critical programs that protect the civil rights and dignity of millions of Americans — including people with disabilities.

Contact your member of Congress: No cuts to Medicaid.

Have these people no shame?
Missouri's AG Andrew Bailey is suing Starbucks, arguing that its workforce is too "female" and "non-white" and as a result Missouri consumers “pay higher prices and wait longer for goods and services" because its workforce is "less qualified"

This is a brazenly racist and sexist lawsuit.

We need to banish the phrase "claimed without evidence" from journalism. Because 100% of the time it means "This public figure told this lie, but my news organization's conventions prevent me from saying it's a lie, even though it's an obvious lie."

Calling a lie a lie ought to be the convention.

There is really no such thing as unilateral mass “firings” or “layoffs” in the federal government, and yet most of the coverage headlines Trump’s purges using exactly those words. Unilateral is the key there.

We may not have an alternate body of language w/ terms as striking and clear as firings and layoffs. But if we focus on the power dynamic, on the unilateralness, and on the lawlessness, it may refine our language and in turn our thinking.

Meanwhile, “purge” is a splendid word.
