‘Highly‐Informative’ Genetic Markers Can Bias Conclusions: Examples and General Solutions
High-grading bias is the overestimation power in a subset of loci caused by model overfitting. Using both empirical and simulated datasets, we show that high-grading bias can cause severe overestimat...

Come learn about some cool new coral disease research from my friend and (honorary) new lab mate Emily! #Evol2025 🪸 Will be a great talk.
Super excited to be giving my first ever conference talk at #Evol2025 tomorrow! I’ll be sharing my work from my first chapter, which looks at disease associations for the coral epizootic white band disease. It’s in Pathogens and Disease at 2:30, hope to see you there!

Happy to see our tools being used in a wide variety of conservation applications.
Starting the week off with some (much needed!) good news - my FIRST first-author manuscript has been published in #conservationgenetics 🌎✨🧪

Using DNA barcoding, I found that ~10% of swordfish sold in New England (USA) fish markets was actually shark, including the endangered shortfin mako 🦈

It's a really great time to say I'm proud to be joining the ASN Graduate Council as a representative from 2025 - 2027. Thank you to the Executive Council for being clear and unwavering about the values we uphold in our scientific work and society.
I usually reserve this account for my personal views; but today I want to represent my position as President of @asn-amnat.bsky.social to post a message that will shortly go out to the membership of the American Society of Naturalists from the ASN Executive Council

If you're an educator now would be a good time to suddenly be incapable of remembering if your students previously used another name or pronouns. What are you talking about, that kid's always been Wren? I don't recall them ever going by a different name, but I mean, I'm just not great at names.
1. Getting word that we have another anti-trans EO tonight, this time targeting teachers.

It directs the federal government to work with state AGs to put teachers who use trans kids pronouns in jail through "sexual exploitation" laws or "practicing medicine without a license."
