Can anyone help clear up some confusion re the social media ban? Will my 8-year-old get to keep her existing SportsBet account? She’s sweating on a 20-leg multi and can NOT afford to be kicked out @albomp.bsky.social

There is widespread support for banning gambling ads on free-to-air media. The main objection is free-to-air networks can’t afford to lose the $$.

As @amyremeikis.bsky.social explains, there's a simple solution. A 2% levy on gambling revenue could more than replace all the lost ad income. #auspol

If a Government is trying to rush a bill through Parliament, then odds are something fishy is going on.

@amyremeikis.bsky.social explains just how the donation reform changes could reinforce the two-party system, and shut out independents and new parties. #auspol

The head of the NACC, retired judge Paul Brereton, is incapable of leading a public service organisation of over 260 people with a very forward facing and very public role

He appears either unwilling or unable to accept that he does not have the skill set required for such a vast undertaking

I wish I was making this up, but the boss of the National Anti-Corruption Commission has given a speech where he admits that he acted with "apprehended bias" during the Robodebt non-investigation. As Bernard Keane and many others argue, Brereton has to resign www.crikey.com.au/2024/11/18/p...

Along with climate change action, Australians definitely voted for an anti corruption commission “with teeth”…

This is untenable…i.e. Brereton’s position is untenable.

Why is he still there?
Rick Morton on the money here, but it goes further.

Justin Gleeson was due to be announced as the eminent legal person last Mon 4 Nov.

But Brereton pulled the rug on it all terrified of Scott Morrison's reaction.

Scott Morrison is the unnamed minister, the 6th person in the Robodebt 6.
