The Catholic hierarchy have always sought to canonise such people.
To hear a member of the Sacred College venerate a serial race-baiter is disheartening, to say the least. Showing respect for someone so tragically murdered does not require this.

Conservatism is *anti-reality,* not just b/c observable reality contradicts conservative dogma, but b/c conservative dogma insists conservatives dictate reality. Accepting consensus reality doesn't demonstrate this domination; forcing others to live according to bullshit conservative dogmas does.
The conservative movement has turned against reality on every scientific issue of our time, from gun violence to climate change to epidemiology.
