You know your society is in trouble when your government's only priority in its Tertiary Education Strategy is economic growth. Universities are so much more than skills' training schools. New Zealanders should want to fund universities that teach and research in all areas of societal relevance.

It's true - Luxon & National want to sell or exchange up to 67% of NZ's conservation lands

The Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment states:

“This proposal would represent a major change to New Zealand conservation law...The vast majority of this land is of high ecological value.”

Luxon wants to sell or exchange up to 67% of NZ's conservation lands
National say they will "unleash growth". That may be by selling / exchanging 5 million hectares of conservation land, much of it with "high ecological value" - representing 2/3 of the entire estate.

Last week, when some of NZ’s school children were either served slop or left waiting for meals that arrived well past lunchtime – if at all – the country’s elite dined on 220 crayfish; 65 dozen oysters; 200kg of lamb, beef and pork, and 60kg of fresh fish.

OPINION: There was something deeply distasteful about last week’s scenes from Shane Jones’ Waitangi party.
