@maryfernando.bsky.social are you aware of any dental offices in eastern Ontario (ideally Kingston) that still take appropriate (Covid etc-informed) precautions? Thanks for any thoughts you may have. 🙏

So disappointing to hear the #CFL is going to format our fields like the NFL. Not opposed to change in general, but the larger Canadian field size and goalpost placement has always been something I preferred about CFL over NFL.

This woman is badass. This is what we can achieve by intervening.

Some helpful phrases (will be understood even if not said perfectly):

- “la migra” = ICE, slang that everyone knows

- “no contesta nada” = don’t say anything

- “no respondas las preguntas” = don’t answer questions

Mad about Bill C-5 (the other half of it)? Worried about Indigenous, Charter and Constitutional rights?

👉Look up your MP and write to them: www.ourcommons.ca/members/en

👉Encourage others to do the same.

💯This is a key part of keeping governments accountable.

There's no room for mediocre leadership, because it replicates the worst of late capitalism.

If you're in leadership, it's encumbent to learn how to be ethical and humane - systemically.

Not sure who needs the reminder, but even if you mean really well, it's not actually helpful to tell a sick/disabled person that you think about them "all the time" if you don't regularly check in (even by messaging).

On the contrary, it's depressing to be on the receiving end of that.

Don't eat the rich.

Tax them.

Because apparently there is confusion:

Yes, we can have different opinions
Yes, I expect you to inform yourself before trying to engage in conversation, just like I do
Yes, I may be racialized yet have boundaries of self-respect, which it seems you're not used to
Yes, trans rights are human rights

CAUT flagged a concerning statement by the 🇨🇦 Conservatives: "Poilievre released his party’s platform...included a promise to 'put an end to the imposition of woke ideology in the federal civil service and in the allocation of federal funds for university research.'"

Yikes.⚠️ 1/

If you cannot afford to be off work for years, you should seriously consider wearing a mask in public indoor places.

It's shocking how fast one can go from athletic+healthy to unable to function. DON'T count on being able to push through. Make sure your disability insurance is good. #chronicillness

I've been quieter this election cycle; am letting those with more privilege do the heavy lifting on civic education for this #cdnpoli election.

Other intersectional, racialized etc voters who are also burned out coalmine canaries will understand, I'm sure.

When you look at the spring/summer schedule and see you're the only female prof this term (of 9 profs).

This has happened regularly throughout my career + volunteering experience.

Being an "only."

Only woman, let alone only intersectional woman.

Excited to teach a new cohort. And so very tired.

It's a rare or privileged experience to be able to vote for someone who reflects all of your values.

Please read that again + think about it.

And then remember those of us who are othered when you consider the importance of voting strategically to avoid the most dangerous outcomes for us.

Hey writing community - writing about difficult pasts isn't "healing"/"cathartic" for all of us as writers.

Maybe some of us aren't writing for ourselves.

Maybe some of us are just doing the hard, thoughtful & intentional writing work because we want to help others feel seen.

Meaningful friendship should be able to persist and grow through internalized ableism.

If it doesn't, it wasn't friendship.

We're allowed to grieve.

And then let them go.

I didn't lose long-term friends when I became disabled.

I just discovered that three of them weren't.

Friends, that is.

Welcome anecdote for any worried or demoralized #booksky authors, readers and people who care about where the world is going.👇
being an indie bookseller in the helltimes has felt both very stable and very stabilizing, and part of me wishes everyone could be on my side of the counter for a little while, because I think it would help some of you be a little less cynical and doomy right now. so here is my VERY anecdotal data:

Reminding Canadians not to repeat errors some left-leaning folks made in the US.

You don't need to agree with everything a political leader does, you need to zoom out and think as a whole.

You can hold them accountable once in office. *You can't hold anyone accountable if the far right gets in.*

So maybe all bathrooms should be removed from all government buildings, courts, schools, etc. in Idaho.

If you're going to do "justice," make it actually just.

Trans rights are human rights.

Some news outlets are saying that law school applications have dramatically increased in number this year as workers look for job stability...

Maybe.

Or is it perhaps because thoughtful people looked ahead after early November and recognized the importance of understanding systems of governance?
March 20, 2025 at 12:09 PM
Hey Canadian voters, remember that just because polls say a candidate is doing well doesn't mean it's a sure thing.

You'll still need to vote when the time comes.

Remember that wins and losses can happen with thin margins and your vote is needed.

A profound sense of justice is only problematic in an environment that is profoundly unjust.

No wonder those of us who are autistic are patholigized for this apparently troublesome tendency. How dare we want to live in a just world (sarcasm).

Keep resisting. Keep being good to others.
March 18, 2025 at 6:23 PM
Interesting how some folks are saying previous presidents never could have gotten away with this.

Apparently, they could have.

Less learned helplessness, more everyday resistance.

This letter sent from Einstein to Curie is a great example of how high-quality men (or other folks with lots of comparative advantage) in particular can be allies to peers with less advantage.

PS I'm going to print out this letter & frame it.

PPS any other intersectional leaders tearing up also?🥺
einstein sent this to curie in 1911 when she was being harassed by tabloids. it contains everything you’d want in such a letter:

(1) your haters are trash
(2) you’re a baller, a true queen
(3) i have determined the statistical law of motion of the diatomic molecule in planck’s radiation field 🧪⚛️
