There's no anomaly here. People, globally, volunteer their time to powerful public goods the moment they're not actively terrified that they'll lose their home, their food, and their freedom. Which means that capitalism requires us all to live in fear, always - because it can't compete with free.
“Wikipedia is this economic anomaly. In many ways, it’s sort of magical that people will just volunteer without explicit economic incentives to create artifacts that are meant to share knowledge with everyone in the world”

When people are comfortable with asking for things it gives off a good vibe. I like to see people have respect for their own desires and be able to use their words. no one can read minds.

asking for things builds trust when you show people you can handle the word "no"

To be 100% clear on this:

Emails cost them nothing. They can delete them, ignore them, forget they exist, whatever.

But there is a dollar cost associated with every single customer service call. That's why most phone trees are over-automated these days. Calling messes up the C/S team goals.

LMAO I called Visa’s customer support service - the guy on the other line was like “are you ALSO calling about the video game payment processing? Please send us emails instead.”

Keep up the calls, folks, we’re definitely gumming up their works
I know we're upset about itch, but they're not the only ones

Payment processors harassed companies bc of a 1,000 email hate campaign

But we can EASILY top 1,000!

I prewrote an email + got the contact info - you just have to send!

We CAN make a difference 💕

Currently on the phone with Visa

Instead of starting with a complaint, I approached this as a Confused American Consumer who doesn't understand why they can't buy things off a website they use

The call center rep immediately asked if it was about Steam/itch

This is your cue to increase the pressure.

Yeah, I worked in customer support and, if it's a 'peak' of one day, they will not care. They'll wipe their hands and say "ok, volumes are back to normal, it's fixed"
If after a week they are still receiving pressure... Then they'll begin to get nervous
we are going to need to keep up this 'yelling at payment processors' energy for more than just today

Ideally, we will need to keep up this pressure over a span of a few weeks

As many people as possible, each making 2-4 calls a day, for a few weeks, is going to make the biggest impact

Dont stop contacting Visa/MC, but Itch needs Stripe specifically pressured right now.

It’s almost like actually humanizing trans people—letting us be in the room—creates real change and deescalates the culture war instead of treating as pawns to elicits support over, problems for being “too controversial”, or villains for being vocal about our issues to people who aren’t listening.
Rep Zephyr’s speech flips 13 GOPs, trans bills die in Montana

Trans people have been scapegoated so effectively (among older people) that we're flooded with models of how to hate.

But when people hear the love behind why we stand up for each other, we win.

Bravo, @zoandbehold.bsky.social!

watching a few british shows and suddenly thinking how we really need more normal-to-ugly looking women in things, just ambiently and in general. normal looking women who aren't all from model casting agencies. Once you start noticing it it's impossible to not notice it and it drives me nuts

I usually post Fallen London screenshots that are hilarious or disturbing out of context, but I gotta stress that there's just as many moments where it says something extremely Real, even when the conversation is with a mouse that I met on the far side of a mirror.
