I review speculative fiction for The Speculative Review, which isn't as cool as it sounds. I also (occasionally) write my own fiction.

The new War of the Worlds movie would be in so bad its good territory if it wasn't such a blatant advertisement for Amazon...

A riveting, tense, and explosive continuation of The Last Draegion Saga with more of the brilliant characters and world building that made the first so great and the stakes turned up to eleven

Dungeons & Dragons: The Fallbacks: Dealing with Dragons

Releases July 29th.

A fine D&D novel with a memorable cast of characters let down by heavy internal conflicts that get in the way of the fun.

📚💙🪐 Book Review ⭐

Mercy: Tears of the Fallen by Chance Dillon.

A wholly confusing and lengthy novel that relies too heavily on violence against women to develop emotional stakes.

2 ⭐
Review: Mercy: Tears of the Fallen by Chance Dillon
An overly long novel that uses violence against women as a crutch too much

Superman.

A decent Superman that takes a step in the right direction for DC, but struggles to take itself seriously in the tense moments.

Saw Superman today. Gonna do a review but have some preliminary thoughts. I liked it and think that it's a good direction for DC, but I didn't overly love it, at least not as much as I liked Guardians.

Chapel of the Falcon and Other Stories by Matt Spencer

A well-written collection of horror stories that are both entertaining and thought provoking. Even though the stories contained can feel a little slow at times. For people who like horror with a strong voice.

A distress call from an old world. A mission to save them. And it's already gone horribly wrong.

From Adrian Tchaikovsky @aptshadow.bsky.social, comes #BeeSpeaker the third instalment of the #DogsOfWar science fiction series.

Reread some of my old work that I wrote during my degree and I kind of feel like I've slipped a little in my craft. Gonna try and focus more, do some more short stories and really redevelop myself.

Bad news reader. I was unsuccessful. Better luck next time.
I've got 3 days to read Someone You Can Build A Nest In before I have to return it to the library and I'm only 47 pages in. Nothing like a deadline to get things done.

I say this a lot but we are all so lucky this generation of fascists came of age on message boards and not stabbing people to death at close range in a trench while the world detonates endlessly around them
Night of the long knives but literally there’s no plan and everyone is just stabbing each other wildly and the stabbing is quote-poasting

The reason generative AI is so popular with wannabe creatives is best illustrated by something every pro writer has encountered: getting pitched an idea by someone saying "You write it and we'll split the profits!" because they think the idea is what has value, not the writing. The opposite is true.

The absolute worst type of "advice" someone can give is, "you should have done it *this* way from the start".

Yeah, I should have, but I don't have a goddamn time machine so what you've said is functionally useless.

Oh my. I think Yarvin needs to watch a couple episodes of Mayday for some perspective on just how "intelligent, practical, and careful" some airline pilots actually are.
If I'm reading this correctly, then Yarvin wants the role of führer to be awarded via a Wings of Voice-style competition www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...
