The BBC has bigger impartiality problems than its coverage of Trump
It is the BBC’s entire governance structure–rather than individual stories–that should cause most concern

My brain is stuttering at "the inhabitants of British villages are quiet, innocent folk, who like to eat breakfast and second breakfast and smoke pipes and never have adventures, and they must be protected from the forces of darkness and brown-ness."
Fuck you, Elmo, you patronising wank.
Fuck you, Elmo, you patronising wank.
Elon Musk, "These lovely small towns in England, Scotland and Ireland, they've been living their lives quietly. They're like hobbits"
"And so one day, 1,000 people show up in your village of 500 and start raping the kids"
"This has now happened, God knows how many times in Britain"

The idea of “bad help” in disasters is an issue some #DRR practitioners & policy makers are already familiar with.
Support works best when shaped with communities NOT for communities. Listening is key.

As a hurricane Helene survivor, I can testify that a great influx of clothing and supplies from outside required volunteers to sort and store.
The best help came in the form of money to be used LOCALLY for such things as building supplies, food, temporary housing, and generators.
Money.

Sharing this a lot tonight - donated items in disaster only make things worse (pretty much without exception and anywhere in the world). There is a long history of this going very wrong particularly after hurricanes www.theguardian.com/books/2023/m...
The big idea: in a disaster, bad help can be worse than no help at all
Emergency relief must be about money, not well-intentioned donations of goods
