They just announced that Terra Invicta is launching out of early access in three weeks.

Ridiculously ambitious (and complex to play) grand strategy reinterpretation of XCom, by the team that made the Long War mods for XCom & Xcom 2.

"art is inaccessible/artists are gatekeepers" is the biggest self report in the world that whoever is saying it is, at best, buying in to incredibly tedious learned helplessness or, more likely, is just a huge fucking loser.
I don't believe it when anyone tries to say artists are gatekeeping creativity because every artist I know is so generous. Lots of us sharing tutorials, free brushes and assets, share our manus, etc! There's no shortage of info or free tools out there if you're willing to look and learn.

If a publisher won't commit to human editing, art and translation, the deal is not worth having. They're signalling how little they care about the final product, which comes with your name attached. This is the right place to push back. Having an agent here helps.
I suspect new authors will have a hard time getting such a deal.

My advice to people, as it has been since the USENET days, is simply this: Everything that can be made public on the Internet one day will be made public. Say what you want and what you feel is necessary, and remember it will be found.
"Only post comments that you'd feel comfortable reading aloud in a courtroom" is a recent meme I read and a good policy in general.

I'm looking through what I think is the oldest text document about DELTARUNE that I can find. This is one of the first facts about Susie. Even though this has never happened in the game, everyone just intuitively understands this as true. I won.

#ICYMI Happy summer solstice! 🌞

🌍 This year's solstice happened at exactly 04:42 CEST on 21 June, the moment the Sun reached its northernmost point in the sky.

Viewed from space, these images capture a full year of shifting light and shadow, from one June solstice to the next 🧪🔭

this deserved its own post instead of being buried at the end

I am just so tired

people can think of fictional aliens and monsters as best friends, love interests, family . . .

. . . but they're indifferent -- or worse, dismissive and callous -- when it comes to the suffering of ACTUAL IRL HUMANS

Wow: after 15 years, YouTube has taken down the original 'Rick Roll' video due to a "licensing issue," likely due to the acquisition of Astley's record lable.

The metadata remains, but if you click through it goes to 'video not found':

Sure, AI may be an environmental disaster and produce mid outcomes in cases where it doesn't straight up lie, but at least it's extremely unprofitable.

There was a huge X-class solar flare yesterday on the Sun!

You can see it on the right-hand limb in these SDO images.

I find it so neat that we live next to, and can study, a star.

We take it for granted that it's "the Sun" and it's always in the sky, but there is a star and it is RIGHT THERE.

Oh good, I remembered my password.

Bit late to maintain my streak of posting and I am not about to count up the days to go back and check if and how much I wrote each day, but there have been a lot of words.
May 7, 2025 at 9:11 PM
I may have skipped another day of announcing my streak. A certain green bird would be appalled. Anyway, I maintain my daily writing and today wrote over 2k words. Easily enough to finally finish that chapter.

Will be out of town for a bit but train rides will give me time to put down words.

As teased earlier day 16 was indeed taken care of. Now I'm officially basically caught up with what I wanted to do here.

Really wondering how people can write words in the high thousands every day. I don't have the hours in the day to do that unless I do absolutely nothing else. Impressive, really!
March 3, 2025 at 11:46 PM
Okay, because I'm now two days behind, I will do a quick run-down. Saturday? Did write, check. Sunday? ...I committed the sin of editing instead of pushing forward, but that is still a form of dealing with the written word. Day 14 and day 15 maintained.

16 is today: On it right after I post this.

My streak, my rules. I did in fact manage to write more on day 13 yesterday, but I didn't get around to make a record of it here. Still counts.

I also translated a few thousand words from English to German and then the same amount from a different text the other way around.
