Elbows up?
Q: Did you apologize to Donald Trump about Ontario's anti-tariff ad?

CARNEY: I did apologize to the President. The President was offended by the ad... I'm the one who is responsible, in my role as PM, for the relationship with the President of the United States.

“And I would like to be able to love my country all while loving justice. I don’t want just any greatness for my country if such is to come from blood and falsehood. It’s through upholding justice that I want my country to flourish.” You said to me, “Well, you don’t love your country.”

Our beloved cat Rosa died in May at the age of 22. We dearly miss her and don’t want to get another cat. Luckily we have a neighbourhood cat named Simon who loves to come over and hang out for a few hours a day, including snuggle time.

RIP Tim Cook. A huge loss for the Canadian history community. Undoubtedly the best Canadian military historian of his generation.

He was also an incredibly kind and generous person, who was encouraging to me in the early part of my academic career.

The US government is at war with the American people.
To be clear:

LA County has declared a state of emergency BECAUSE OF the federal government.

The Feds, LA County is (correctly) saying, have CAUSED the emergency.

This is a striking political moment of internal collapse. Local govts feeling compelled to protect their ppl from … their own govt.

I am the consummate car guy. I dedicated my life to creating and adoring them. But I have also learned that life is better when you don’t need one. I’d rather take the bike and/or the train and I love living in a walkable city. It’s not about “taking away your car”, it’s about giving you a choice.
You can be a “car guy” and not like car dependency. You can be a “car guy” and get that too many cars in cities is bad for everyone, including drivers. You can be a “car guy” and be tired of lies & manipulations like “the war on cars.” You can be a “car guy” and know more choice means more freedom.

Residential schools denialism has consequences.

The deplorable LS shamelessly uses her pregnancy and young children to elicit sympathy while denying the harms that Indigenous children experienced.

"More to come" suggests that she's currently strategizing about how to turn this into a grift.
Update: Lindsay Shepherd says the B.C. Conservatives have fired her.

My 5th year BEd students were talking about learning resources for teaching about Residential Schools and one student brought up Gord Downie and the Chanie Wenjack resources. I was amazed that only one student knew about Gord Downie or the Tragically Hip.

I'm officially old.

In her interminable quest for attention, Lindsay Shepherd continues to be a blight on Canadian society and espouse vile, malicious views, in this case residential schools denialism. She should be fired. Free speech does not equal speech without consequences.

This essay is yet another example of a historian writing about historical thinking (or what they call historical sensibility) as if it's a new idea, while ignoring 50+ years of scholarly literature in history education focused on conceptualizing and theorizing historical thinking.
I can't recommend this essay enough: "Ultimately, thinking historically is about asking better, more probing questions. It is a disciplined curiosity that fosters an appreciation for the complex interplay of individual agency, structural forces and pure chance." www.noemamag.com/the-lost-art...
