The assassination of Charlie Kirk makes we worry we can no longer have peaceful discussions of whether gays should be stoned to death or civil and collegial debates about whether black people are inherently inferior. Our culture will suffer.

If Mayor Bowser is not recalled, DC will not make it.
Here's Rudolf Rocker on how lesser evilism helped pave the way for Hitler. Keep in mind, this is from 1937. He follows this saying, “Democratic countries have learned nothing from this example and are now traveling with fatalistic submissiveness along the same path.”

D.C. Mayor Bowser issued an executive order that would welcome federal law enforcement officials to stay in the city indefinitely, an indication of her willingness to cooperate with President Trump’s effort to take over public safety in the District. https://wapo.st/45VkEK5

“This is not our fight” is a naive position that reveals small-minded, homogenizing ideas of Black people as a whole, as well as Black history. Nearly every fight has been a Black fight because of internal diversity and because we don't have the luxury of not being targeted in every way possible.

No one who does the hard work of organizing across communities has the luxury of talking about it as if it's a fantasy where you get something out of it every time. People fight battles and wars with the promise of losing everything because they refuse to accept injustice.

Many people in the US have a transactional relationship with struggle because their values and principles are transactional. The political system teaches people to compromise themselves on everything from self-exploitation to imperialist mass murder abroad. It's about selfishness, not strategy.

Maya Lin was 21 & a student at Yale when she won the competition for the Vietnam Memorial, honoring the Americans who lost their lives in the war.

Controversial at first, the simple black granite motif, holding all names of those lost, is beautifully set into the Capitol Mall
