A heck of a chart: in every single one of the 10 major US cities that built the most housing between 2017 and 2023, rents for older, existing units fell—often by quite a bit.

Utah's statewide trail network is ambitious and exciting, and it shows that good bike infrastructure is not 'liberal' or 'conservative,' but human. We are all better off when we can get out of our cars and enjoy the natural world safely.

This was a big election for housing, with wins all over the state. Here in Louisville, we defeated anti-housing ballot measures by a decisive margin.

The future of our city is at stake. We must take bold actions to create more affordable housing and protect our vibrant community.

We've been talking a lot about deed-restricted affordable housing lately, but this article makes an important point: a few units of 'affordable housing' that we ration out doesn't solve housing affordability. It's an important part, but we need more homes across the board to alleviate the shortage.

The voices of exclusion are using the language of the oppressed as they work to prevent new homes and prevent new residents from moving to our city. Our City Council represents us, the members of the city who want to make room for our kids' teachers, our nurses, and our seniors.

The 'yes on 300/301' argument, as explained by Joe.

This doesn't represent how most residents of Louisville feel or the kind of city we want to live in. Vote NO on 300/301 so we can create a more inclusive, affordable city.

This is huge. Parking minimums add high costs to construction and perpetuate car dependence.

This doesn't prohibit parking, it just means the builder can choose how much they create. Some locations don't need it, or need as much. Some homeowners would rather use the space for other things.
City of #Boulder has concluded its mega #parking reform.

Parking minimums are now gone. So all those patches of 200 square feet that home-builders have been required to install at a cost of $30,000+ per space can now be used for other things like vegetable gardens, bike parking, and housing.

Portland shows how it’s done

“The new homes aren’t just more numerous—they’re also more affordable.

According to sales data analyzed in the report, newly built middle housing sold for $250,000 to $300,000 less on average than newly built single-detached homes.”

This is a very good and nuanced piece on corporate landlords owning SFH:

"There's always gonna be a cost and a benefit," he says. But the bigger problem for housing affordability, he adds, is that "we just haven't built enough [homes] to keep up with the population growth and household formation."
Here's what happens when private equity buys homes in your neighborhood
What makes rents go down and neighborhood diversity go up? Corporate landlords. But they also make it harder to own for yourself.

The housing crisis is preventing our kids from having the opportunities we had. Their lives are delayed and their dreams harder to achieve.

It's not right and it's not fair to them. We must build enough homes, of all shapes and sizes, so that everyone can afford a place to live.

Boulder has seen the same issue, on a smaller scale. Just like the suburbs of so many other US cities, Louisville has seen strong job growth. We've added thousands of jobs, but few homes for all those new workers, pushing them further out into suburban sprawl.
Why is the rent so damn high in LA? Simple economics: the demand for housing is extremely high and our housing supply is extremely low.

If these so-called 'affordable housing' initiatives become law, virtually all new housing in Louisville will be blocked for years to come.
