I don't understand how anyone can watch how blatantly Grok is manipulated to answer the way ownership desires it to and then act like the other LLM chatbots couldn't possibly be similarly but less obviously compromised to produce responses in whatever way corporate interests and priorities dictate.

this may be what started the whole discussion in last few days about AI scraping of email 👇

@helenkennedy.bsky.social highlights important downside (among others) of letting critical functions be privatized & commodified in this way

telecom has moved from regulated to wild west, USPS has been targeted, healthcare is about profit, not health or care

we need secure public infrastructure
So apparently Google just started scanning your emails with its Gemini AI and if you opt out of this, you lose your (vital to me) categorization of emails as important/promo/etc. I’m kind of stunned at this. After all these years, how do I switch to a new email provider?
November 21, 2025 at 5:57 PM
wow did they send this AI marketing email to the least likely person to want it

also wut the wut: “no topic is too small or too strange” 😳

Reindeer graze in the snow in the Scottish Highlands as cars driving through the Cairngorms mountain range stop to look at the animals, part of the UK's only free-ranging herd.

yikes! also, does this mean that if you send (or have sent) emails to someone else with a gmail account & they have not opted out, your emails to them will be scraped?
You now need to opt-out of letting Google use your G-Mail to train its AI. Go to your general settings and scroll to Smart Features: Unclick it. Done.

i (briefly) had a magazine editor that asked me to start writing my humor column with SEO keywords

humor doesn’t work that way ha ha
Saw a post today that advised writers to stop writing as if a human will read it and start writing for an LLM that will be summarising.

As someone who really enjoyed trying to develop a peculiar but readable authorial voice, I find this incredibly depressing.

also why does the media keep anthropomorphizing AI? chatbots can’t “recognize” anything

the cited study does this, too,
per the article: “they [chatbots] often fail to recognize when they need to step out of these roles and firmly tell teens to get help” 😳!!!

PA skeep here. Let me get this straight, the plant could produce enough electricity “to power roughly 800,000 homes, according to the Energy Department” but it’s going to power infrastructure for corporate AI instead 🧐
What could go wrong?
The Trump administration is lending $1 billion to help restart a nuclear plant at Three Mile Island in Pennsylvania, boosting a project that aims to provide power to Microsoft’s vast network of data centers.

humans vs AI coin toss: tails humans lose, heads AI wins
So if AI succeeds loads of people lose their jobs as they're replaced by AI, and if AI fails, loads of people lose their jobs as the economy crashes?
