yeah, who is this vandermeer fucker anyway? writes such fuckin utilitarian mimetic goddamn prose with no ambiguity or imagination.
Sick to death of this utilitarian storytelling trend. Have shit in your novel that just adds flavour and depth to your world! Not every gun is a Chekov. You don't need to walk a reader down a straight narrative boulevard.
Say a locksmith comes to a character's house to open a locked door in your novel. Guess what? Unless that person figures into the novel later, or the interaction has some other meaning, just cut to the effin' door being open. No one gives a flying f*ck about the locksmith in this context.

D&D last night was amazing
Half of us died (but we’re playing A Turn of Fortunes Wheel so it doesn’t matter), and two of the deaths were because our baker accidentally sent us into a human oven (crematorium)
“I haven’t burnt something in 20 years!” He screamed in horror 😭😭😭😭
