I watch too much stuff and proceed to reference that stuff too much.

To seal the deal, I've stolen this format from my friend but made it uglier. (Some of) My favourite media you can expect me to talk about at nauseum.

Continuing from yesterday, my favourite OP from the ORIGINAL Urusei Yatsura is "Dancing Star".
Not only does it capture that relaxing yet quirky atmosphere I love from the show but the syncing of music and animation is at its most satisfying.
Plus, it helps it's just really catchy.

Been watching through the Urusei Yatsura reboot and this first OP has especially stuck out to me as my new favourite from the franchise.
The manga panels and montage feel like a celebration of the series, while it still works as a lively introduction to the mayhem for newcomers.

Honestly, after the upcoming Tom and Jerry blu-ray, I'm hoping the most for a complete Billy and Mandy set.
It's always been such an underrepresented show on DVD (just season 1 and the movie) and it really deserves so much better.

I love how creepy the Billy and Mandy credits are.
The music is calm but also aggressive and twisted. And there's that unsettling grain and fog that obscures those tarot cards.
Like the show itself, its eeriness comes from a surreal weirdness instead of anything outright scary.

There are very few movie scenes I love more than the opening to A Shot in the Dark. An unexpectedly mature way to start a goofy slapstick comedy, with that sombre song backing the whole thing.
Visually impressive, too, with only four long shots in four minutes.

Welp, I'm satisfied.
(I'm impressed just how spot-on they got the look.)

'Golden Eggs' is an unusually screwball Disney short that shows how versatile Donald was as a leading man. Some great absurdist gags throughout.
The hysterically manic movements and zany expressions here are only strengthened by the strong musical timing.

Incredibly happy the 'Mouse Cleaning' restoration has finally been (partially) released.
As one of my favourites, I've watched this one a ton on the Classic Collection (as far as I know, the only DVD release), so it's surreal seeing it so vibrant and clean. [1/2]

The animation in 'Thru the Mirror' is masterful, turning what could've been another generic 30s dance routine into one of Mickey's best moments.
There's so much mesmerising fluidity and personality in each movement, with all its stretchiness.

'Polar Pals' is one of early Clampett's best, especially its ending fight sequence with one great visual gag after another.
Its highlight is undoubtedly this earworm of a song, complete with some great character animation (full of personality) and a fantastic reflection dance.

One of Stalling/Franklyn's best compositions come from the ending of 'Zoom and Bored'.
A great rendition of "Dance of the Comedians", with its exciting tone broken up by varied moments of escalation and tension.
I can never get enough of that sting when Wile E. grabs the rope.

'Barbary Coast Bunny' really demonstrates Bugs' likability.
Though you know he's playing a character the entire time (a fun, unique premise), Mel Blanc delivers the sympathetic angle so convincingly that you still kinda feel bad for him.
An excellent performance from Daws Butler, too.

Probably my favourite scene in any sitcom. Two great punchlines back to back. The ending is genuinely my all-time favourite joke, it kills me no matter how many times I see it.
Roger Lloyd Pack's comedic timing is honestly unparalleled.

'Sandy Claws' makes me wish we had more of Sylvester and Granny teaming up.
Their chemistry is as suprisingly strong as "allies" as it is as enemies but there's criminally little of it out there.
A hilarious delivery from Blanc here, with that chaotic animation of the wave.

I really love the soundtrack to Live & Reloaded.
I don't prefer it to the original (they're equally fantastic) but I just enjoy the grander feel of the remake, with a little more going on in the tracks. It helps ones like this feel a tad livelier and atmospheric.

'Puss Gets the Boot' may have my favourite soundtrack from any cartoon.
While Bradley's later frantic scores fit the series better, the slower and cynical tone here is really catchy, thanks to that reliance on repeated motifs.
Some great animation on Tom here, too.
June 23, 2025 at 9:04 AM
The style's appealing but it's ultimately pretty generic. Nothing here screams Tom and Jerry.
Imagine an educational show that actually works in good slapstick. Entirely comprise it of gags like this and, who knows, it COULD work.

The set-up from 'A Ham in a Role' of basing all its gags off of Shakespeare quotes is genius. I wish this dog came back more. He was the perfect pompous rival for the gophers.
The highlight is this knight sequence. Fun music, over the top in its violence and completely insane.
June 7, 2025 at 9:28 AM
'Louvre Come Back to Me' is a surprisingly strong final Pepe, with a really angular and vibrant art direction.
The highlight is absolutely the duel. Not only is it a hilarious Blanc performance with some great character animation but it's refreshing to have a moment where Pepe isn't chasing someone.

'The Foghorn Leghorn' really perfects the mayhem of the trio's dynamic, with them constantly getting in each other's way.
Both the incredibly painful/impactful slapstick and Foghorn's frantic running here are phenomanally done. Plus, it ends with one of my favourite lines.

Here's a gag with some great escalation from 'Going! Going! Gosh!'.
It really pushes the coyote's humiliation, with every little thing adding further insult to injury.
The start also has my favourite rendition of "Dance of the Comedians", with its calmer and sneakier sound.

I have a soft spot for 'Bill of Hare'. It feels like an attempt to bring back Clampett's screwball Bugs with some pretty unique gags.
For a 60s McKimson, the plot kicks off gratefully fast. There's a great pacing throughout, with a nice flow and escalation to each sequence.
