This needs to be getting a lot of attention.
Exclusive: Security officials in the United Kingdom have demanded that Apple create a back door allowing them to retrieve all the content any Apple user worldwide has uploaded to the cloud.
U.K. orders Apple to let it spy on users’ encrypted accounts
Secret order requires blanket access to protected cloud backups around the world, which if implemented would undermine Apple’s privacy pledge to its users.

@caseynewton.bsky.social @kevinroose.com on the ethics of using exs using streaming accounts…account owners have obligation to review logged in devices. No harm (agree about no purchases - that feels like stealing)

@kevinroose.com Care to share more about how you created more “delight” in your phone/tech? I find myself, presumably, where you were at the beginning of 2024.

Anyone out there have experience #developing a basic #Instagram app/establishing an API connection to consume public data? Looking for experience setting up an app and establishing proper #API permissions.

@caseynewton.bsky.social - Great episode! I’m really conflicted about the “AI Slop”. I am terrified of and opposed to AI fakes. However, referring to the girl on a raft, what if someone drew the same exact picture as a form of symbolism?
It's Hard Fork Friday! This week, the director of the new documentary who thinks he's found Satoshi stops by to make his case. PLUS: the hurricanes that left AI slop in their wake, and another round of Hot Mess Express www.nytimes.com/2024/10/11/p...
A Flood of A.I. Slop + Searching for Satoshi + the Hot Mess Express Returns
There’s just so much slop that at a certain point it makes the internet basically useless.

There are a ton of brilliant people at this company that are doing some absolutely amazing things.

Anyone have experience using #DuckDB out there? I’m interested in learning about your experience. What your use cases were/are, etc.

This is just really poor strategy when it comes to customer retention…hold the device hostage?! How about spending money on making your customers WANT to stay?
oh look, T-Mobile says the FCC can't require that all wireless phones be unlocked because the recent Supreme Court Chevron ruling killed regulatory independence

who could have predicted this sort of thing happening constantly, across every single consumer protection effort
T-Mobile: Unlocking Phones After 60 Days a ‘Major Question’

Who’s trying this?
Thirsty Dog!/Thirsty Cat! (1994-1994): Liters of lightly carbonated bottled water made specifically for pets, containing vitamins and flavorings ("crispy beef" for dogs, and "tangy fish" for cats), but FDA approved for humans consumption, and even certified kosher.

@caseynewton.bsky.social listening to Hard Fork episode from Sept. 6th. I’m surprised the use case of medical device has not come up with cell phone ban. People with #Type1Diabetes( #T1D ) really need cell phones to monitor their blood sugar
