The unspoken assumption is that you are a woman who is doing it for the love of the game and that your husband makes the real money so it's okay to post positions requiring an MLIS and think you'll be just fine with only making $15-$19 an hour.
Librarianship has never paid well enough for the education required.

In this moment - where the rent is impossible to cover solo - it is even worse.

Indiana just pulled funding for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library program for the state. This program gifts all children, across the state, free books from birth-age 5.

This one's just fucking cruel.

When the Nazis took power and gutted the Weimar era civil service in government, they also claimed the need to increase efficiency and to ensure loyalty to the nazi party. They did it through the law for the restoration of the professional civil service.

New blue sky users: the reason this place is good is because people don't reflexively yell at each other and assume the worst. Online interactions don't have to be so defensive and nasty all the time.Dunking on a bad take just gives that take oxygen.

We can all do better but we have to try.
Maddow plugging Bluesky is, on a metric level, good for the platform, but it also means it is clearly filling up with people who have never used this kind of app before. They're used to Meta platforms, which is why they reply angrily to everything they see and add nothing. Human spam essentially.
Maddow: If you don't have Bluesky yet, I recommend it. It is a social media network that doesn't make me want to stab myself in the eye with a rusty fork

Folks are shocked that their institutions, after professing commitments to climate justice and DEI, are now caving to Trump and scrubbing all references.

It's brutal.

And it's the smallest taste of what our students felt when their universities called in the cops b/c they protested a genocide.

What if all the rest of the White House press corps stopped showing up until the AP's reinstated?
New: the AP says it was blocked from an Oval Office event after being informed that it would be barred if it didn’t follow President Trump’s guidance on renaming the Gulf of Mexico

now let's see if they actually are allowed to do it
