*Sigh* I'm sad to see my happy routine thing go out this way. Recovering from an operation, and learning to walk again, but learning just that bit of language? Everyday? gave me immense meaning.

I ponder: apps were meant to be disruptors, how monopolised the area that there's no clear competitor?
I was going to post this article this weekend but Duolingo's recent doubling down on replacing humans with generative AI pushed me to get it out sooner.

Here's a list of amazing apps for learning Japanese that DON'T use generative AI!

The whole em-dash = AI really throws me. After using ChatGPT a lot for almost a year, I use the em-dash — a lot. It's dramatic and perfect for the internet. Look at it just taking up space in glorious abandon.

But now – I guess it's back to the en-dash. The diet coke of grammar symbols.

This guy says in the replies that this was 7-10 years ago but it makes you wonder how many companies are still doing it like this with 100% human labor. We already know every AI company is doing this with some degree of human intervention, they just call it “training the model.”

Astonishing low adoption considering how much of the tech industry dedicates itself to establishing more immediate ROI.

Yeah there's no way that generative AI gets us to approaching AGI. They are not building it and it is not what's coming out of ChatGPT or anything related to ChatGPT

Once upon a time in a internet galaxy far far away, I used to get great links from a fantastic community on design/tech/culture on a birdsite.

So today I'm contributing one. LOVED this from @annehelen.bsky.social on the habits of online shopping in digital hellscapes!
