Nearly every panel I spoke on this year ended with the same question: "What gives you hope?"

My friends, that question expired years ago. (If you need receipts, my book Saving Us is literally a 300-page answer.)

Home insurance is in crisis, and Big Oil's lies are to blame.

"We’re never going to bend the curve of ever-rising insurance costs without addressing the core driver of higher prices: the worsening climate disasters that Big Oil knowingly made a reality," explains CCI's @iylas.bsky.social.

As I am one of the climate scientists he is referring to here - and I am a scientist who decided to dedicate her life to working on climate precisely because of how unjustly it disproportionately impacts the poor and vulnerable - let me clarify my rationale and thoughts below. 🧵

"I'm glad people are listening," he said, before adding that it was hard to convey "nuanced positions nowadays."

One of the best things I do for myself is that on every quiz in my Global Environment course I ask students to share what they consider the most important thing they learned and tell me why. The connections they make and their reflections moved me to tears this morning. Grateful tears.

Everyone is worse off with a reduced NOAA workforce. EVERYONE.

We literally make daily decisions due to expected weather conditions like grabbing an umbrella or securing furniture ahead of strong winds.

And anyone can access that information because it's already covered by taxpayer dollars.

This morning, the US National Science Foundation fired 168 employees, approximately 10% of its workforce, for no cause other than they were the agency's most recent hires. 🧪

Co-workers are leaving supportive messages before they have to clear out of the building at 5 p.m. Sent to me by a source ⬇️
