sometimes my brain just gets stuck on another homophone or w/e and it breaks my recall of the word in question.
like this is read koshō. which is also the word for 'pepper'. (like black pepper). i know that's not what it means when spelled with these kanji. and yet.

honestly even going from having studied dutch/english/german/french/latin (and speaking the first two well) to learning japanese, i still spend a lot of time trying to reckon with this
When someone early in the learning process for language X asks of some simple-seeming statement Y “how would you say Y in X” and the answer is “you wouldn’t”, their response to that will accurately locate them on this spectrum
I've never tried to teach a language in a professional context but from observing it happen a lot I can say anecdotally that one of the big challenges in going from 1 language to 2 is convincing the person that other languages are real and not just someone obfuscating their native language for fun

i don't like how if you block accounts on here their replies and likes still count towards the counters. but i get why they do it, after all, computers are very bad at tracking things and simple arithmetic

might even get around to cleaning up the yard a bit at some point now. lord knows it needs it but it gets dark at 16:30 now which is not entirely compatible with my day/night rhythm
