I only recently discovered Jane Gardam and, last night, began reading her final novel, “Last Friend,” then learned this morning that she’d died. Looking forward to working my way through her list and savoring a new favorite.
Sad to hear of the death of the amazing Jane Gardam. She was 96 - a very good age, but still very sad. I would love to have met her. What a very fine writer - one of my top favourites. #BookSky

I can’t stress this enough: I don’t care what happened to Katy Perry & Gayle King today, I don’t need to see Oprah cry, while Rümeysa Öztürk, Mahmoud Khalil and others remain detained, and Kilmer Armando Abrego Garcia and others remain imprisoned in El Salvador, with no due process. Who’s next?!

On Monday, March 31, 2025 we learned that DOGE is targeting the NEH with the aim of substantially reducing its staff, cutting the agency’s grant programs, and rescinding grants that have already been awarded.
