🔥 The climate crisis is on track to destroy capitalism, warns Günther Thallinger, a senior figure at Allianz SE, one of the world's largest insurers. Rising temperatures and extreme weather events are creating massive costs that threaten to render the financial sector inoperable.

A really cool new study on the impact of climate activism has just dropped! Some highlights:

1) "There is strong evidence that climate activism shifts public opinion and media coverage in a pro-climate direction, but this varies by context and the tactics employed."

This week we’ve been meeting MPs to call for an end to all new oil and gas extraction, starting with Rosebank.

We need everybody’s voices on this including families from across the UK. For our kids. For everyone.

This is maddening. We need to renationalize.
Thames Water's £3 billion loan will include £898 million in consultancy fees and interest payments.

And they plan on forcing customers to pay for it.

We can't keep rewarding them for failure. Public ownership of our water is the only option.

What headline captures the abject stupidity of our historical moment better than "Rainforest Felled to Build Road for Climate Summit"?
On top of total capture of COP by the fossil fuel industry, we now have "Amazon forest felled to build road for climate summit."

At what point do we acknowledge what is now plainly obvious: that this is not the solution, but a big part of the problem, a coverup for BAU?

Really deeply and broadly (and equitably) tackling cost of living issues would entail regulating the hell out of the gas companies and utilities that hurt consumers by overcharging them for dangerous, outdated fuels they've been locked into using.

In the late 90s & early 2000s we in the UK received (very roughly) 80,000 asylum applications per year.
Mainly people escaping Balkan wars.

Today in these “unprecedented” times of “invasion” by small boat… we receive pretty much the exact same numbers.

Had you been taken in?
I wouldn’t blame you.
