! I've been banging this drum for months

Due process is how you determine things like 'is this person a citizen' & 'did they break a law'

GOP's insistence that noncitizens & lawbreakers shouldn't get due process is putting the racism-cart before the logic-horse

A Trump order seeks to impose involuntary confinement on homeless and mentally ill Americans.

Trans people are already at a higher risk. But a nightmare scenario of mass confinement hangs over the order - the right defines trans people as inherently mentally ill.

A classic coordination failure: everyone makes excuses for why they go along with authoritarianism rather than resisting. And democracy and the rule of law crumble. We thought our institutions and culture were stronger, but we are following Hungary's path.
Former US ambassador to Hungary: "After years watching Hungary suffocate under the weight of its democratic collapse, I came to understand that the real danger of a strongman isn’t his tactics; it’s how others, especially those with power, justify their acquiescence." (h/t @bnovak.bsky.social)

"Now only churches get the benefit of not paying taxes *and* get to work to influence elections. Not because Congress changed the law. Just because the executive branch threw it in a random court filing. That's not how democracy is meant to work."
