My husband has taught human reproduction and development to the Cambridge medics for over three decades. When people start banging on about "only two biological sexes" he starts with "which sex: genetic, hormonal, or gonadal"?

Thank you @natureportfolio.bsky.social for making my review of the Anxious Generation open access for parents, policy-makers, and the public. The story told in this book runs counter science and is leading to poor policy decisions that will ultimately fail our kids. www.nature.com/articles/d41...
The great rewiring: is social media really behind an epidemic of teenage mental illness?
The evidence is equivocal on whether screen time is to blame for rising levels of teen depression and anxiety — and rising hysteria could distract us from tackling the real causes.

New paper out today in PNAS 🎉 demonstrating:
1) an association between social disadvantage & child brain function can be observed as early as birth
2) these alterations are brain-wide, but most pronounced in functional networks & subcortex later linked to childhood adversity

Terrible law.

This kind of ban stigmatizes young peoples’ use of tech and mental health challenges while potentially isolating many children/teens in need from supportive social networks.

Censorship is not a mental health intervention.
