Fluvial ecologist focused on restoring montane tributary systems; now focused on protecting all of these efforts from unraveling with the incoming Whitehouse infestation. Overly empathetic and dig the acoustic music of Neil Young, Jay Farrar, and the like

Seeking more papers on the affects of small wood (<0.1m dia) on streams: pool formation, sediment trapping, channel morph, etc. (please share, thanks!)

As Trump world falls apart around us, we’re doing our best to provide habitat and water storage in mountain tributary streams.

@nytimes.com take note. We’re all tired of it. Change.
Trump couldn’t remember the Prime Minister of Japan’s name so he called him Mr. Japan. 🇯🇵

If Biden had done this it would have set off a thousand hours of nonstop coverage.

Every time I donate to a political party, candidate or cause I get inundated with spam, begging me for more money. It feels very much like you consider me just another sucker. Knock it off. Find a better way. I want to donate, but until you come to grips with this, I’m done.

I’m hearing rumors that thousands of people are calling the ICE tip line to report little green men and other aliens from outer space. That’s not why ICE set up this number, so you should absolutely NOT call that tip line to report those types of aliens. 👽

I repeat—do NOT call the below number! ☎️

"Bonobos [one of our closest relatives] refuse to participate when faced with unequal rewards."

The vast majority of people similarly want fairness between us, but almost always end up with leaders who don't.

That mismatch is the single biggest barrier to a better world.

Bonobos refuse to participate when faced with unequal rewards
The question of whether non-human animals have a sense of fairness has been widely debated. Some studies suggest that primates and other cooperative species show an aversion to inequity, while others ...

Good morning and Happy Saturday to everyone who agrees that if playing golf with the Saudis is more important to you than honoring our dead soldiers, or dealing with the financial crisis YOU started, you don't deserve to be President.

RESIGN, trump.
You piece of shit.

This is one of my past students from when I taught science in public schools. He ended up with this terrible disease prior to joining my class - struggled deeply but came out of it strong. If you can, maybe pitch in a buck or two?

Floodplain rivers are among the most valuable ecosystems, write Christina McCabe & @jdtonkin.bsky.social - we should let them roam free to better manage flood risk, support biodiversity, improve water quality and store carbon. Research published in @naturewaterjnl.bsky.social
Restraining rivers through stop banks and channels transfers and heightens flood risks downstream. Allowing them to roam free limits flooding and delivers other ecological benefits.

We expected 2,000 people out in GOP-held Greeley, Colorado.

11,000 people showed up.

Something special is happening, folks. Now is the time to organize in every dimension possible and get to work.

Last year I wrote about the restoration of the Colorado River's headwaters in Rocky Mountain NP, with huge benefits for water quality, fire mitigation, bird habitat, etc. Just learned that the project's funding is frozen & key personnel on leave. Another casualty.
