I have been working on my speculative ghost story WIP for…years…now, through major life changes and very little time, but I have FINALLY unlocked the second half and am making real progress! Hooray!

Hi again, all! Back after a long break, and as I’m watching and waiting to deactivate all things Meta… who should I follow here?

Every November I declare I’m going to use the Nanowrimo motivation to finish something. Then, every November, life gets in the way, and I fail. So THIS November, I’m declaring I will actually finish this damn thing and hahahahaha

What’s the word for when you’ve been working on your manuscript for so long that it’s all boring and presumably awful and dear lord should I burn it or do I just need a little snack.

I’m sure people who are smarter than me have said it better, but I don’t think humans are hardwired to cope with the sheer volume of suffering we’re witness to these days.

Currently reading The Hollow Places by @tkingfisher.bsky.social and it’s freaking perfect. Fun and disturbing and imaginative and I can’t put it down.

Parenthood is saying things like “don’t sit on the cat” multiple times because, clearly, once isn’t enough.

I think one of the worst quirks of online spaces is the idea that if someone doesn't post about something, they don't care about it. It encourages performative posting often makes things worse.

I care a lot. I just don't want to add another poorly-informed voice. I'm reading & thinking.

The new episode of Morning Show is so stressful. What an absolutely miserable time that was.

If you drank every time they mentioned Taylor Swift during the Chiefs game you’re dead now.

Just got a job listing for editing AI content to sound more authentic. The pay? $100k/year

Pay for many freelance writer listings? $0.01/word

We are cheaper than AI and they’re still trying to replace us.

Imagine thinking BELOVED isn’t supposed to make you uncomfortable.
The utter arrogance of declaring what passages of Toni Morrison "don't add to the story" www.washingtonpost.com/education/20...

What is it about the internet that makes people reply to “oranges are sometimes sour” with “LOTS OF ORANGES ARE SWEET ASSHOLE WHY DO YOU HATE APPLES”?

I hope people are studying this so I can read a book about it someday. It’s horrible and fascinating.

Just finished the most miserable book I’ve read in a long time. Anyone have happy/hopeful/fun reading recs?

I’m always reminded of the saying (by whom? Can’t remember) that “easy reading is hard writing.”

Writing something that feels effortless to consume IS NOT EFFORTLESS. And yet some people are comfortable degrading creative work (something they also claim to love) simply because it’s “easy” to enjoy.

EXACTLY.
I started writing stories when I was in 4th grade. They were terrible. I’ve been working to get better for 30 years.
It's not my fault as a writer that other people smothered their imagination and creativity in its infancy. Have they considered doing the work of strengthening it?

Anyone else struggling to use the Atlantic AI database right now? Or is my link bad?

If all books and art are fair game for AI training then all the code should be open source. You think my intellectual property is free for the stealing? Hand over yours, too.
