Do not finance the loan with the frozen Euroclear assets! It's not legal. Our EU government should set the example by abiding by its own and the international laws, otherwise it cannot expect from its citizens to do the same. Belgium is right and correct to resist these plans.

How wars are usually settled is that one side takes such a beating that it's no longer economically or physically capable of continuing. The other side then tells it what it has to do for the beating to cease.

Ten years ago today, Syrian archaeologist and head of antiquities at Palmyra, Khaled Al-Asaad was tortured for four weeks, and then murdered by ISIS, when he refused to reveal the location of ancient historical artefacts that he had helped to hide, to stop them being destroyed, by ISIS.

It's a tragedy that the coalition of tyrannies — China, North Korea, Iran — is far more committed to helping russia destroy Ukraine than the coalition of democracies is to supporting Ukraine's survival. As if their own security didn't depend directly on it. History teaches people nothing.
