Sometimes I wonder if Trump voters are still eating the toilet paper they stocked up in 2020.

A photo that encapsulates Texas:

In the background is Space Shuttle 'Independence', a replica shuttle on display, near Space Center Houston's education center.

Americans are more or less inured to Donald Trump’s incoherent ramblings and political theatre. After his speech in Davos, stunned Europeans are inclined to call his behavior what it is: out of control.

It’s Time to Talk About Donald Trump’s Logorrhea
How many polite ways are there to ask whether the President of the United States is losing it?

Economic blackout? Jan. 23?
Smells like organized resistance.
Toast the oligarchy.
Spread it like butter.

We have developed sophisticated machines which stimulate, reward, and amplify compulsive behavior. The parallels to substance use disorder are glaring and multiform.

When someone claims social media brings out the worst in people, they must mean the compulsion to reply to every post which makes us emotional with a fragment of an idea and sharp criticism of that which we superficially understand. What if our worst is also our most common act?

The laziest, weakest attitude is "I don't give a fuck."
Hey child, I wasn't asking you for one. On the contrary, I'm out here collecting fucks, and in my expert opinion, your fuck isn't worth shit.

The average number of days alive for humans is 28,000. Today, I have been alive 16,104 days. 14,000 days of my life had occurred on April 13, 2019. That was my brother's 40th birthday.

I could increase the number of cakes I eat by throwing a party every 100 days. I turn 16,200 on April 21st. 😉🍰🧁

A few more things that stood out to me: the breathtaking poverty of the country, the binge drinking in civil and military society, how pervasive the black market was nearly everywhere, how callous people were about the cost of the war even for their own family members.
This incredibly lengthy story about Russian deserters is well worth for the read for how much the Russian state, society, and military have declined. One detail that particularly struck me was the wife who sent her spouses off to die just to collect the benefits and cash out.
The Deserter
He didn’t want to fight in Putin’s war — he just wanted to survive. But to make it back to his family and live in peace, he would have to run.
