I met my daughter at Karaoke tonight. A book by that author was delivered at her house. She brought it to me (A Swim in a Pond in the Rain). It sat on the bar and no less than 5 people picked it up, asked about it and made a note somewhere in their phone. That is community engagement.

A library kid asked me how old I was. I said I was born in 1991 to which another kid repsonded with, "shouldn't you be dead"?!.
(Yes kid, yes...)

My friend just finished Wuthering Heights. His review is basicly, "These people are crazy".

In Suriname our libraries do not yet grant free or even have guest wifi. This is also true for schools and many othe rpublic spaces.
Libraries are more relevant than ever.

I talk a lot about my momma but I also want to shout out my daddy for introducing me to the “good vibes barter economy”. Aka

Be nice
Don’t show up empty handed
Help clean up
Notice what happens to people

Don’t do it for the free shit but end up with the free shit and be grateful

I once said this2 to explain why libraries are underdeveloped (in the caribbean). Maybe these places are dangerous because an literate people will comprehend more and have more power then an illiterate one. The other person was surprised to hear danger and library in the same sentence. Sabi na makti

There are some movies that, as I’m watching them for the first time, I can’t stop thinking “I can’t wait to see this again.” Sinners is one of those movies.

I've been rereading MATILDA and I just have to say... Thank you for bringing Matilda Wormwood to life, @marawilson.bsky.social 📖

LOVE the thought of Matilda growing up to become a beloved librarian 💛

“These books gave Matilda a hopeful and comforting message: You are not alone.” 💚

#librarylog The kid that called me a nerd threw a slipper at me. I confiscated it, he later came to apologize and said he only did that cuz he wanted to play with me....then I took him down with a leg sweep.

It’s National Library Week!
Sure, I go to the library for books, but also sometimes I go just to exist in a space that's welcoming, organized, comfortable, judgement-free, and run by knowledgeable, helpful, passionate people, because that energy is straight up medicinal.

Librarylog
- several kids remembered my name
- one kid kept teasing me but then we ended up making finger hearts.
- a new volunteer helped arrange the books in the kids section and that made me happy.
-another voluteer tried to choke the new volunteer. (Don't worry, they were playing around)

Last year I got to vist the National Library of Guyana. It's a beautiful building, the childrens section is wonderful and they even had a collection of books in maderin from the chinese embassy. That was a wonderful surprise. The library isn't automated yet and they still use a catalogue box. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
