Had a horrible thought today. How often do I do things because an algorithm presented me with the idea?

Existential crisis Saturday night!

Good reading month! Expanding my reading outside of just horror has been beneficial for me this year. 💙📚

Do y'all annotate your books? I feel like doing so might deepen my understanding and enjoyment of my reading. Or, feel like I'm back in college pulling an all-nighter for the paper that's due in the morning.

Thoughts? Annotating, beneficial or stressful?

Just bought Octavia Butler's Parable collection and Roth's The Plot Against America. Just in case books start disappearing from shelves. 📚💙

8. Fair Play by Tove Jansson

Trying to read more translated lit.

It's all vibes. Vignettes about Mari and Jonna. Longtime partners, a writer and artist.

They watch movies, bicker occasionally, get caught in some fog, etc.

Low-stakes snack of a read. Only 100 pgs.

Had to pause my current read. Who knew an 850 page book entitled "An American Tragedy" might get kinda heavy?

So, I understand the unfortunate need for it on today's internet, but I really wish the first ten minutes of every BookTube video didn't have to be devoted to "This is just my opinion, guys. Chill."

Bookksky is keeping me sane lately. Couldn't even get through the entirety of a 20-minute news podcast this morning.

What you read to me has always been oddly personal. It gives an insight into who you are (in a good way) that not everyone gets to see. #moreads #booksky

Bel Canto by Ann Patchett

Guerillas storm a party full of powerful people. A months-long standoff ensues.

This book is about how hard it is to hate someone you know.

Slow, but the shifting relationships between people are fascinating.

Keywords: empathy, opera, frozen in time

Recently heard the idea that a lot of social media is just a bunch of people micromanaging each other.

Really cuts down on my screen time when I think about it that way.

Memorial Drive by Natasha Trethewey

Memoir from a former U.S. Poet Laureate about the bond she had with her mother, and the events leading up to her mother's murder.

The nature of memory, guilt, and the power of metaphorical language come up, as well.

A short, powerful read.

A History of Fear by Luke Dumas

The (fictional) manuscript of Grayson Hale, aka The Devil's Advocate. He committed murder. But he swears the devil made him do it.

We know how things will end. But why? The Devil? Religious trauma exploding manifesting as violence? A chilling read, either way.

Really like that posting here every day isn't necessary for people to see my posts when I DO have something mildly interesting to say.

Read Dangerously by Azar Nafisi

Through letters to her dead father, Nafisi explores how stories weave into our lives and the political moment. Reminded me that I love challenging books.

Always gonna read horror and other genre fiction. But I will push myself out of my comfort zone more.
