Living on a hill that overlooks NY Harbor and the Statue of Liberty. Hoping that Liberty remains something more than just a statue in a harbor.

Point of reference: Spot price of a 1 KG gold bar is over $130,000.

This may be a tautology. Those who don't, or can't, may already be in decline.

That he's a villain, one a healthy society, and a government with a functioning Constitution, would not abide.
November 23, 2025 at 11:18 PM
Go back to the language of the Constitution and read what it actually says. Slowly. Carefully. It lists who CAN be removed (individually), how, and what FOR. That's it. There's no package bulk deal.

Meanwhile, Trump even stole that desk. It's in Mar-a-Lago, not the White House. They're claiming it's a replica, but no one has seen the original since the "replica" was debuted.

So.... It could be worse?

What am I supposed to do with that?
November 23, 2025 at 9:37 PM
For starters, one advantage is you don't end up with a bunch of random mooks and posers in your Cabinet. They're all elected Members of Parliament, assigned a "Portfolio." And there's a Shadow Cabinet by the opposition. Competent Civil Servants actually run the Departments.

Trump has demonstrated some major failings in our government structure, defeated all our checks and balances, and aggregated power no one that unpopular could achieve in a Westminster-style parliamentary system.

We're going to need a major restructuring, an American Parliament.

Why wouldn't Earth still have a ring?

I don't understand how any self-respecting Alabaman can listen to that carpet-bagging, cornporn fool for two seconds and think, "Sure, that's the guy I want representing me."

He's embarrassing. Hell, I live in Brooklyn, so none of my goddamned business, and I'm embarrassed for you!

Basically, ingredients for a bunch of tasty dinners for less than the cost of one steak dinner, with an hour's effort to neatly part out, pack, and freeze the birds. I won't mention the bonus chopped liver or chicken salad.

And, by the way, because I'm retired and like playing in the kitchen, those chicken breasts came on a couple whole chickens I bought at Costco for 99¢/lb and cut myself. I've got a freezer full of wings, legs, thin-sliced breast, and a quart of rich stock made from the backs and scraps.

I can afford beef, but the rise in price pissed me off, so if I'm spending that for dinner, I'm buying shrimp, lobster, or Dungeness crab. Meanwhile, for "ordinary" meals, I'm making damned fine dinners from chicken, fish, and pork.

Tonight, poached chicken breast in wine & tomatoes.

I'm not convinced even that churl Turley would spew that nonsense.

OMG! He was killed on the 51st anniversary of JFK's assassination!

Forever linked!

While I have little doubt that Mankind will go extinct in the next 100K years, along with 90% of Earth's species, I have declining hope that any emergent sentient species over the next 500 million years won't also off themselves, or even notice that we were ever here.

Big honking engines and they must have lightened the shit out of that plane! Gut the interior and give it enough fuel just for 20 minutes?

ICEing is the new SWATting?
November 23, 2025 at 3:52 PM
Nah. That doesn't make sense, either. With blackmail like that, why wouldn't they keep her around to do their bidding? She wouldn't be "out of the yard" now if they had anything on her.

A graduate of one of the top third of law schools (Univ Houston Law), she's also a successful litigation lawyer who knows her stuff. She "cut her eyeteeth" as a public defender, then formed her own firm.

No one should underestimate what a powerhouse she is, or how devoted to the cause of justice.
November 23, 2025 at 3:18 PM
I'm still unclear on what that "forced" looks like. She has solid claim to that seat for the remainder of her elected term. The Speaker has no say about that. The House could remove her by a 2/3 vote, if they'd be willing to mumble up some cause, but Dems wouldn't go along unless legit.

My folks bought a split-level ranch on 1/4 ac that looked a lot like that in 1955. Oak floors on two levels, asphalt asbestos tile on the slab floor of the ground level. Crawl space, no basement. 3 BR, 1 full and 2 half baths, formica counter. 14' peak ceiling in the LR/DR open area. $16,500.
November 23, 2025 at 7:07 AM
I don't know where that would work in 1987. In parts of Long Island that was certainly true in 1977, and almost anywhere in suburbia in 1967.
November 23, 2025 at 6:56 AM
Yeah, maybe AFTER she's disbarred.
November 23, 2025 at 5:55 AM
OK, I think I got it ("shrimp on the barbie"). Now, what do I do with it? Is there some broader political commentary here?

Also, I like shrimp. You going to eat those?
