Living on a hill that overlooks NY Harbor and the Statue of Liberty. Hoping that Liberty remains something more than just a statue in a harbor.

No, wait. That explanation is bullshit. Live cattle prices are actually down over the last few months. Here's what must really be happening: Consumers are pulling back on purchasing beef, so orders are down.

I'm pretty sure that if you were to ask Americans how they feel about people wearing symbols of their religion in public, it would depend a lot on which picture you showed them.

I think I've seen enough pictures of Mamdani to opine that that's not him smiling. That's his serious face.

This is a graph of the futures trading in the S&P500 over the last two days. It is bonkers to see price girations over 250 points in that time frame. This kind of volatility is rarely good news.

For those of you in your 70s who might not need your RMD from your retirement account right now, but are being forced to take it, consider taking advantage of the QCD provision. You can make sizable donations tax free and still get the full standard deduction.

Here are a few worthy orgs I support:

Is that container in the room with us now?

(That is utter nonsense, of course. "Special container?" There's no such thing. The White House flag is only raised or lowered by a Marine Honor Guard wearing white gloves. When lowered, it is removed and ceremonially folded.)

Bloomberg News' Editorial Board is lamenting the current state of college freshman math skills. #1 and #3 are simple arithmetic questions. #2 adds reading comprehension.

So, two questions for everyone:

How hard do you find these?
When did you graduate high school?

Me: Dead easy, and the '60s.

Sigh... Meanwhile a jury of twelve heard the prosecution and heard the defense, and rendered a verdict. EXCEPT in the case of those who PLEAD GUILTY!

How do you plead guilty and then demand reparations for being prosecuted?

In any event, none of these pardons had anything to do with justice.

Well, the problem with the 25th Amendment is that in order to remove the President, his incompetent Cabinet of minions, lackeys, myrmidons, and drunks, who are utterly dependent on him, would have to do the deed.

Mark Twain on lies (which he attributed to UK PM Disraeli):
"there are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics"

The thing about trends and graphs is, as long as you can pick your starting point, you can make either case. Inflation is up the last several months, but down from 2022.

Canary, meet coal mine!

The economy rots from the bottom up.

Wall St, of course, hopes this means the Fed has to cut interest rates to keep the record-setting market's champagne flowing, but that won't fix this.

There are fundamental problems.

Just a footnote here: The social policies espoused by self-avowed democratic socialists are NOT socialism. No one is banning capitalism, which is the ability to organize companies by selling shares in them to investors. Or to use your own money to start one.

"TRUMP SIGNALS HIS PLANS FOR FUTURE ELECTIONS"

It's not good, Folks. He's using Presidential powers in ways only a Tyrant would.

Perusing filings in Kim Davis' SCOTUS appeal of Obergefell, I tripped across this bold assertion by one of her amici.

Why isn't "nature's God" telling them to oppose national energy policy warming the skies & oceans, inflaming storms, raising the seas and threatening life, crops, and futures?

I live in a city of immigrants. More to the point, I live in a city of immigrant cuisines! And even more to the point, these are all accessible to the home cook.

And nobody said you can't mix 'n match!

Behold: Kala Chana Masala Pupusas! (Had some leftover chickpeas from the other night.)

AND, he told a self-deprecating joke to relieve the audience.

Everything about him is eleventy-billion percent opposite of Donald Trump, like a galaxy far, far away.

Trump is a Hutt.

They can do (and will HAVE to do) both. By the way, they don't just ship to NZ. About 30% of their bauxite is exported "raw," mostly to China. The 70% they process into alumina is then exported to several countries. NZ doesn't even make this list!
