We are using the federal election of February 2025. We didnt collect data for the recent local elections but I am sure that the results would be very similar.

For a long time, these patterns supported strong SPD voting. Here is a table from the paper that I didnt show in the thread. The SPD still overperforms in these places, but has lost many votes over the last 3 elections. We dont give any "new" explanation for AfD voting, just explain where it occurs.

Yes, it is. We try to take that into account by looking at the change in the local manufacturing share since 1970.
